Reaction for “Game”

Before reading this story, the first time I see the title of the story I thought differently than the story actually is talking about. The title “Game”, let me think of something fun to play in a group, but after reading this story, I found out my guess was totoally wrong. The story takes place in an underground place, which two men are being strangely and fear throughout this story. They stayed underground for more than one hundred days; they are waiting for the console to flow and use their keys to fire the missle together. Although there’s food for them to survive, it would be scary if I was in this story. It is hard to trust each other in this case; other might kill you if you act strangely. When I read the story, I put myself in the third person watching them underground. This story became real when I was reading this story. Over all, this story is interesting; it even appears different type of guns in this story. The title of the story actually points towards the theme of the story that there is only a step to end the whole game in life which is destroy.

Reaction for “The Girl Who Wouldn’t Talk”

Everyone came from different cultures; we would try to get in to the new culture as fast as we can if we are in different country. The narrator in this story is a Chinese girl who is trying to get into the American culture too, but she sees herself weak in another Chinese girl who is called the silent girl in the story. The narrator really hates “herself” being weak, so she wants the girl to speak and get into the American culture like her. My opinion, the narrator is kind of mean to the silent girl. I know she has her difficulties seeing “herself” weak in the silent girl, but I would not say those mean words to that silent girl. If I was the narrator, I would talk nicely to her or be her friends first, and then find out why she wouldn’t talk. About half of the story is about a narrator pleasing the silent girl to talk, in this part, the narrator describes her so neatly. She describes the way she cried; even describe each detail about her. I think the narrator not just does not want to see herself in that silent girl, but she cares about her too. She just doesn’t know how to solve the problem.

Summary of my science fair project

My science fair project is about learning and memorizing. As we attend our education we need to memorize a lot of vocabulary words in order to use it in our daily life and communication with people. In this experiment, I decided to find out which kind of study habits is better in memorize, reading the words silently, read out loud the words, or writing down example sentence for each word. I gave six high school students 60 words total with definition applied to 3 different conditions. I gave them 10 minutes for memorizing each condition, and 5 minutes for them to take a multiple choice test. Those vocabulary words are non-English words, so the experiment is fair.
After the experiment, I found out that students got high score on reading the words out loud, because they were able to hear their own voice while memorizing. My hypothesis writing down example sentences will have the best score was wrong, because they didn’t have time to finish making sentences and memorize them in 10 minutes. If I give them more time, they would get a higher score on their test. Throughout the result, there is one student got all 100 on his three test, who is good at memorizing words in all three kinds of study habits. Over all, everyone has their own study habits, but read the words out loud are the best throughout this learning experiment.
